A degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
Applicants must have active, current registration as a professional nurse in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment.

Operating Room Nurses must be able to assign responsibility and delegate authority to the Operating Room nursing staff. To effectively perform the responsibilities of this position, the incumbent must possess the ability to determine and change priorities as the needs of the Operating Room dictate. I have performed the duties of Charge Nurse over an Operating Room complex; and/or I have changed Operating Room schedule or staff room assignments in emergency situations; and/or I have ensured all operative packages were checked for integrity and expiration date, when necessary.

Operating Room Nurses in a Federal Medical Center possess the ability to act appropriately in critical and/or emergency situations. They are responsible for ensuring the Operating Room is in a state of readiness for emergency and routine situations. During emergency situations, they are expected to coordinate activities received and ensure proper equipment is available for procedures needed.
