  1. A degree or diploma from a professional nursing program approved by the legally designated State accrediting agency at the time the program was completed by the applicant.

An applicant who has graduated from an approved nursing educational program within the past 12 months may be appointed pending State registration as a professional nurse within 6 months of appointment.

4 Psychiatric Nurses must be able to document all pertinent patient information in medical charts, complete written documentation to be included in patient files and transcribe, review and execute physician's orders. They must possess strong written communication skills in order to produce effective written documentation on patient medical needs and services required. 6 Psychiatric Nurses must possess the knowledge of a generalized body of current nursing (medical, surgical and psychiatric) and correctional techniques and principles necessary to provide appropriate assistance for the nursing staff during emergency situations.
