The following are the seven areas of engineering science or physics: (see above)

(a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) and other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

* 1.Minimum Qualification Question (For all Grades): Choose the answer that describes your education and experience as it relates to the occupational requirements for this position.
  1. I have completed a bachelor's or higher degree in professional engineering (accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum).
  2. I have completed a bachelor's or higher degree in professional engineering that included differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following (SEE BELOW) seven areas of engineering science or physics:
  3. I have current registration as a professional engineer by a State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  4. I have successfully passed the Engineering-in-Training (EIT) examination, or the written test required for professional registration (given by the Boards of Engineering Examiners in various States, District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico), and, completed all requirements for a bachelor's degree in engineering technology (BET) from an accredited college or university that included 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, or, a BET from an ABET-accredited program.
  5. I have a combination of at least 4 years of college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that included successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences, including differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following (SEE BELOW) seven areas of engineering science or physics:
  6. I have successfully completed a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in engineering technology or in an appropriate professional field (e.g., physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology) and have at least one year of professional engineering experience under the guidance and supervision of a professional engineer.
  7. My background does not match any of the above choices.


* 2.GS-13 In addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications for all grades, choose the answer that describes your professional experience as it relates to this position.
  1. I have at least one year of professional electrical engineering experience (equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service) managing large-scale projects involving marine or electrical engineering systems such as developing electrical designs, plans and specifications, for shipboard power generation and distribution systems or solving difficult engineering problems associated with modernization, conversion, maintenance and repair of ships and boats.
  2. I do not meet the requirement described above.
