Specialized experience is experience independently conducting, and/or serving as a qualified team member or leader on, marine inspections or vessel surveys on the most complex vessels (must include petroleum industry vessels); determining compliance with laws, regulations, and applicable standards, verifying the existence of proper vessel documentation and the certification and safe and proper operating order of systems (navigation, communication, alarm, lifesaving, firefighting, and pollution prevention systems) and machinery, and the soundness and acceptable parameters of vessel structures and hulls; identifying hazardous conditions and violations and prescribing corrective measures; overseeing new construction of small passenger vessels, implementing Alternate Compliance Program and Self Streamlined Inspection Program requirements, and evaluating International Safety Management Systems; providing technical expertise and training to junior inspectors; providing input to program planning; and writing analytical reports.
